The Best of Fredric Brown-This Posthumous collection, edited with an excellent introduction by Robert Bloch is a good place to start on reading Fredric Brown, especially for a new reader.  It contains only science fiction stories, and none of his detective fiction, but it nonetheless is comprehensive in givng a flavor for Brown’s work.

Arena-Brown’s most famous science fiction story, it was made into an Episode of Star Trek and was selected for the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.  It concerns a single-combat battle between a human and alien that will decide the outcome of a war between humans and an alien race.  I must confess that this really isn’t one of my favorite Brown stories, despite all of the hype.
